How to download ringtones in the first generation Apple iPhone?

I recently upgraded to the first generation Apple iPhone (No 3G) and I wonder if you can really have songs as ringtones and if so, how are you? Did you buy them in iTunes? Title information – is an unlocked phone on T-Mobile network.
