Any way to extend the battery life of iPod?

I have the 8GB iPod nano fourth generation. I have a fairly long road trip in a few months, and I wonder if there is a way to prolong battery life? Apple says that will play for 24 hours, but we know that all that bs. Be that I can turn off all the extra features, but no particular form of the battery or the charger I can buy? Thanks! (:

Hello, I bought an external battery, loooooong before a trip, and it worked very well. It is a small device called a stretch powermonkey the battery two or three times more, and can be recharged when connected to a wall outlet. The powermonkey works with iPods, Blackberries and cell phones the most. If you drive, another option could be to get an iPod charger that plugs into the cigarette lighter.
