Problems with my iPod Nano 4GB! Help please!?

My iPod Nano 4GB acting weird. I have a habit of turning the knob "Hold" when in my pocket to avoid accidentally turning on and the battery died and whatever. I know that the hold button is enabled, because orange dot in the "hold" switch on the screen. But now in his pocket with the "Hold" switch is on, and my iPod is in play, a song was! So what?! I had this iPod for about seven months, at Christmas, so it is not even a year yet. I try to take good care, but I can not drop a couple of times.
