How to transfer iPod music library from your old computer to new computer?

I just got a new computer and want to transfer my library. I went on Apple's website and asserts that both computers must have iTunes 7.6 and my old computer is obsolete! I can not download the new version, much less the load on the iPod. Is there any way to transfer the library without having to manually add the songs again?

we need to know whether PC or Mac that has the library? If the songs on the iPod, you may be able to sync the iPod with the new team and get these songs on the new computer.
