How to get iTunes to recognize my new iPod?

My old iPod plays and syncs automatically when I connect, but my new (nano color) will not read when I connect to the Windows installer tries to install but asked me to insert the CD that came (to my knowledge, Apple failed to launch CDs with your iPod). Apple support said to download the new iTunes, and have a working Internet connection than I did and do, and will not be recognized. Windows says the drivers are updated. Can anyone help? Restart and reset iPod, also published on the Apple Web site. They always have the same problems.
