Apple iPod Touch … video format?

I am buying ipod touch but does not support Xvid format (or something) that all TV broadcasts I download are. Am I supposed to change?? I do not want to go to the creative vision, because the screen is half size, but is too heavy to convert videos? If not, can be a NE1 link where I can find a converter?
