OTHER iTunes problem?

I just upgraded my iPod Touch OS 3.0 software, and I had to update iTunes. Then when I tried to use the Apple Software Updater or otherwise would not install, I tried to download only and tried to install from there, but still would not work. So I uninstall iTunes and went to the site and download the installer for version 8.2.1 of iTunes. When I tried to install, something that appears saying "Invalid Drive J: " when is "the space requirements of computing." This is the third time that everything in my iPod has been deleted and I would rather have a Zune or a good MP3 player $ 30. I have Windows Vista if that helps.
