3G iPhone jailbreak help?

I have a 3G iPhone, which currently has the 2.0.1 firmware. I know there are methods of jailbreak several different firmwares such as 1.1.4, 2.0 and 2.0.1. And I have my iPhone with firmware 2.0.1 jailbroken before, one that comes with Cydia and Installer 4.0 Beta. I realized that some applications that need as BSD subsystem and others are not in the Installer 4.0 Beta. But I've seen people download these programs Installer 3.0. I wonder what is the best way to jailbreak my iPhone 3G that you can customize, get applications NOA, etc. And if Back in the firmware 2.0 or lower would be necessary. I have a Windows XP if that helps you decide which method to use.
