Travelling abroad with a 3G iPhone?

Ok, so in the coming days, I will travel to Costa Rica and I have an iphone, I wondered How I can avoid big cuts in the final. All I want to do with this phone is for music and play games. Nothing more. Would it prevent project legislation to put the phone in airplane mode all the time or place for data roaming option, or if both be good? Thank you very much pour votre aide. _In
