Programs to make applications for the iPhone?

My friend and I want to make an application for the iPhone. You buy the iPhone developer program Apple but I wanted to download a free program for Windows developers to writing practice. Does anyone know any books?? Seeing there are no programs that I mentioned before, no one knows anything good (and free) program for the practice of scripting the program?

One is for Macs. There is only one program and is manufactured by Apple. Mac and not free.
