PS3 – The score as a media player

This is not an opinion on the PS3 as a console, or simply as a Blu-Ray. Instead, examine the hypothesis that a multimedia computer and web.

Blu-Ray Bright. quick boot, not a single disc, refused to play for today, great film. DVD Reader, except I do not think I will try to sever your region protection code. I think it's good for the sampling, but never so much for me oversampling.

Now for the rest … The PS3 is supposed to be truly multimedia, almost a team. My initial idea was to use as Blu Ray, but also surf the web, listen to Radio Paradise and MP3 files stored on it.

Internet browsing is seriously broken in this sense. Flash nagware causes only asking you to run the plugin. Worse, the browser will automatically "out of memory" errors on Web sites medium complexity, such as YouTube and Delicious. Apparently, the PS3 currently affects very little memory for the browser. Once this error report, you must quit and restart the browser (not the PS3, luckily).

I do not know how the markers work – not very friendly. I mostly browse the history.

Radio Paradise? Of course not, the PS3 will not accept any of its various formats. Even with Lastfm and Pandora, but I have not tried it myself.

You search in the browser to consider carefully whether you plan to do while browsing on this thing.

MP3? Pretty good, but not much. MP3 files to Import Process local level (energy aware => I heard) is counter-intuitive and, once loaded, the interface is years behind iTunes or an iPod. 3 / 5, only saved by entertainment program Music Planet Earth, which is the best display I've ever seen.

Videos? capacity to DivX and other codecs.

Most of these defects can be fixed, if Sony decided to work on the browser and the ability of music and introduced a firmware update. In order for us to express our concerns. Updated on 09 January: with firmware 2.53, the browser displays the Web pages in most of my 1080p width, font sizes reasonable. Before the pages have been focused, using only 50% of the width of the screen and sources available really small. Much better for websites + text from the image. A positive step, but the rest of the web browsing issues remain.

2.80 09/firmware July. Navigator has improved, you can display Delicious now. However, still hangs from time to time, sometimes to the point that I have to restart the PS3. Now I use a little more, I realize much of the browser has disabled the virtual keyboard of the extreme slowness of data entry. So Delicious is a great help (it can be set a bookmark on your computer). Oh, and if states have a Radio Paradise stream compatible PS3 still does not.
