How I can keep my iPhone safe at school or when they leave?

I am thinking of buying an iPhone but I'm terrified of losing it: / The strings arent really in the market as far as I know, because the phone is too big. Wouldnt be so in my pocket and can be cut or just stick it in my bag school. How do you ensure that the iPhone is not stolen??
