How I can make iTunes (works in VirtualBox on Ubuntu 9.04) to recognize my iPhone?

I am new to Linux and trying to synchronize iPhone with iTunes in Windows XP in VirtualBox. I enabled USB 2.0 and when I connect my phone, VirtualBox recognizes my phone is connected, but when I open iTunes, I get nothing. The phone does not seem like devices for synchronization. I would appreciate suggestions on what to do next. Thanks!
