Iphone No Service After Restore

HELP! my second generation iphone keeps saying no service or just get a bar?
I had the iPhone for my brother. Is a 8gb iphone second generation. I opened with the latest quickpwn. when I go to install or my ATT or T-Mobile SIM card, momentarly services, but its only one bar. and after 7-8 seconds vanishes says no service. I reset the network settings and Airplane mode on and off, however, he always says no service. I do not know what is wrong with him. Any help would be greatly appreciated …. Well, I opened a clue. Usually, with a locked iPhone 3G, just update the latest version of the software, which I think 2.2. Many people reported that the service update of new software much easier.
