How to get the 3G iPhone in recovery mode loop?

I have an unlocked iPhone 3G running on ios4.0. Somehow now frooze is in a recovery mode loop. I try not to use and iRecovery EBRI. Please sugguest other software or methods that may help my problem. PS: I use 64 bit Windows 7 Or Windows XP. Mac solution would also be welcome. Thanks in advance. All responses are appreciated.
