iPhone programming languages?

What languages can use to program an application for the iPhone? I know that Java and Flash is not supported, but can develop an application in PHP, ROR, etc? All resources would be super! Sorry – seems I have to add details. Yes, I'm looking develop an application for the App Store. I know in the SDK, so that the software must do is communicate w / my servers to get updates in real time. Me wonder what languages the iPhone would be compatible with the environment to transmit information and have read the application on the phone. Thank you!
