How I can update my ipod touch?

ok I have an ipod touch GEN 3. and, when I went to download the iBook and said that I can download to my iPod touch. Then I clicked to buy and said that this application requires iPhone 3.2 Software Update …. How I can update on this? or if that is the same thing ios 4.0? HELP!
