Do not restore iPhone OS updates and firmware to the latest?

im having problems with my iPhone speakers and I recommend anyone to restore using iTunes. client and Im just a TMobile, so I need my iPhone to 3.1.2 to unlock it, and if I had to restore my iphone is the operating system and updates for the latest firmware? (3.1.3) or simply return to regular adjustment factor? Thanks!
