Problem with Visual Voicemail on iPhone?

Since I have my iPhone set up visual voice mail is to request a password to use. It is sometimes random, even when I'm not even in the voicemail screen. I know that the password is usually lack the last four digits of their number, but does not work and will not let me change the password. Ever need a password before I got my iPhone fixed. Ideas? Thanks
