Is it possible to turn off the water damage indicator on the iPhone?

Went to get my iPhone 3G replaced, and would not because the indicator was * my * iPhone was submerged in water. Did it, except perhaps the rain. I saw it on YouTube, and it is very complicated procedures I have to disassemble the phone. Is there an easier way to do this? Thank you.
