Do I live my iphone 3g activation?

I just upgraded to a 3G iPhone. I bought the phone from AT & T. As I have already registered through iTunes gave me the option to activate it as a "new" phone or put in my backup of my old iPhone. I chose to download the backup. O man. It froze, stopped, took a long time to download, frozen again, it works. Returned as soon as possible and get a new tomorrow. Was my leg or was really a bad phone?
