iPhone backup problems. Can anyone help me?

I have an 8G iPhone first generation with the 2.1 software and I'm looking for to sync my music on it via iTunes 8.0 and I think there is something wrong. The phone is connected and should make a backup before they can synchronize. But support is forever. I had to wait until you can save an hour after and reached 75% of it, but after that only stopped in one place. Also try sync now.
