Is it worth buying the iPod Touch?

Okay so some of my colleagues have either the iPhone or iTouch and although it seems very nice, the price of new one does not work. I put an ad on Craigslist, but I doubt I get no response. Anyway, im 22 in the army, have a family and I am getting my next assignment to pay the annual clothing. Our son is full of diapers, formula, clothes and rags. We have it all. Is it really helpful to the iTouch, I'm not going to put the music prolly a lot because they prefer to use it for entertainment and an MP3 player, games and applications seem interesting and I said, many of them are free. But for users iTouch, really worth it to get there? What are some advantages and disadvantages of the itouch? battery life, do not scratch real easily? if something you want say about this, please let him. Thank you.
