Iphone Gps Navigation App

Portable GPS/navigation system OR Phone navigator?
I wanted to purchase a navigation system that I can use everyday, considering I’m new in town I;m in right now..
I got an iPhone 3GS,thinking to download the navigon app.I like the fact that I my phone is handy,I can just use and bring it with me anywhere.. all stuff in one! But I have to buy a mount & charger.
But I’m not sure if it’s worth it.. or if it’s a good idea over purchasing a portable navigation system..
Any experience you can share? or thoughts maybe? PLEASE.. thanks!
Welcome to the world of digital convergence. You are facing the choice of a single device that does it all, or choosing a dedicated device that does one function really well.
I know people who have gone the iPhone route for GPS, because their phone is always handy. I also know people who have preferred getting dedicated GPS devices, because they tend to work better.
Personally, I like the dedicated GPS myself for cars. The mounting and Points of Interest features are better and kept more up-to-date. For walking around a new town, I prefer the phones, so I’m not carrying around an extra device. On the other hand, you can carry around a car GPS (they’re pretty small, so it’s not a big deal), and I used Google Maps on the iPhone for walking around as well (you really don’t have to buy the navigation applet if you don’t want to.)
With holiday deals, the portable navigation systems are pretty cheap right now.
