Sftware I read an article on open source. What education do I need to work with these and similar products?

I am an expert in computer and a dot. I'm not a programmer, nor am fashion design, but I am the business mind and can think of hundreds of uses for the iPhone is not already thought or integrate Facebook for open source software. Great right? except that I have no formal training or even how large. I have a management job that requires a lot of my time (8-6:30 average). Is there an online course or in formal education in the NY / NJ area is trustworthy enough to make me work with these programs?
