What is the best iPhone 3G for T-Mobile network? The unlocked iPhone 2G or 3G?

I plan to buy an iPhone, but idk what is best for the current mobile network t. T-Mobile has a 3G network, but I'm not sure if the 3G phone going to work with T-Mobile service. I do not think the purchase of Internet data service package with T-Mobile and am basically only with WiFi. Also of course the iPhone will be launched so you can use T-Mobile. Thanks
